19th August

CASPAR NETSCHER (Dutch Art x Bella Cantata) ran out a comfortable winner of the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York today with the Breeders Cup being talked about as a possible last race of the season.  He has now won two races and been placed in  his other five (including 4 Stakes races) and earnt over £100,000.  Not bad for a horse sold at last year's October Book 2 yearlings for only 25,000 guineas.

His unraced dam could have been picked up last year for only 22,000 guineas.  Meon Valley retained her winning sister, Siren Sound, however, and her first foal, a February colt by Rock of Gibraltar, is offered as Lot 1090 in Book 2 this year.

13 August

Midnight Oil (Motivator x One So Marvellous) made it two wins from his last three starts with victory at Newmarket in a mile and half handicap.  Midnight Oil is the first runner out of One So Marvellous, a lightly raced winning full sister to ONE SO WONDERFUL.  She is the seventh filly bred by Someone Special and five older siblings have all produced black-type performers.  She has a yearling colt by New Approach (Lot 266) at Tatteralls Book One - just before ONE SO WONDERFUL's Danehill Dancer colt goes though the ring (Lot 267)

MEDIA HYPE (Tiger Hill x Hyperspectra) won on his first step up to middle distances at Yarmouth and extended his dam's record to six winners from 7 runners, including Irish 2000 Guineas runner-up and Group winner FRANCE.

It was the Stud's 25th win of 2011.

Bilidn is declared for the Lancashire Oaks on Saturday and Ypsilon King is entered in Hungary on Sunday.  The Stud is nine clear of the 2010 total to date, but July last year saw 10 wins, so it will be tough to maintain that lead.

Ateeb was unplaced in Saudi Arabia earlier today.
